   Hi I’m stitching the 1st gen extended and have a question..
   I was thinking of, insted of using full stitches, use half stitches on the back ground…
   But should I do them in the direction of the top finished full stitch, or the bottom?

      Hey,
      Well, you have three choices! 😀
      1 – Stitch them in the same direction as the top stitch – This will make a kind of painterly appearance, but by doing this there will be ‘lines’ visible going from one corner to another. Not a big issue with something like this epic though.
      2 – Rows/columns of one direction then the other direction – All the advantages of the first, but instead breaks up the ‘lines’ created.
      3 – Stitch them in the same direction as the bottom stitch – Unlike the first option, this has an added benefit. It’ll give a slightly 3D look making the full stitches stand out more.
      I would personally go with option 3, but failing that option 2.

         Should I use the two strands I’m using with the rest of the project?

   Hi! I’m thinking of starting the Gen 1 pattern and just wondered if you knew where the middle point of the pattern is? I’ve tried to work it out myself but I’d like to make sure before I start. Thanks!

      On page 13 of 31 you’ll see two little arrows. One on the top and one on the left. These show you where the center point is. If you follow them down/across where they match up is the center!

   Hey!

   I was looking into starting the gen 1 pattern, but I am unsure of what size Aida to get (and what count), as well as where to get cloth that large. Any advice?

      Hey!
      The size totally depends on the count. So that’s what you need to work out first.
      As for count, 14, 16 or 18 is the most common, with some people doing 22 as well. If you’re a very advanced cross stitcher and have great eyesight, you can go with 22 count, but most people won’t choose this option.
      I personally prefer to work on 16 count, but 14 is the most common out there.
      If you choose 14 count, I would get aida of 75cm x 120cm.
      As for where to find aida that large, we have a post dedicated to where to find super sized aida!

   In the pattern it says 18ct Aida, however in the paragraph at the top it says 14ct. Can you advise which I should be using. Thanks

      You can use either! The higher the count, the smaller the finished item will be. Most people work with 18 count, 16 count and 14 count. With 14 count classed as the “standard”.

   What is the difference between the color patterns and the color extended patterns?
