Hello, I hope that you are doing well. I recently acquired an older threaded color card from 2006 (W100NC) with 575 floss samples for $5. What is the most prudent manner in which I can go about determining all the changes made between this version and current up-to-date one? Thank you in advance!
Hi,
Sounds like a great deal!
The good news is that not a massive amount of new threads since then: there was a release of threads 01 to 35 in 2013.
There was also a release of Etoile threads in early 2014 and Coloris threads, but neither of these are on the up to date color card either!
However, there have been a lot of discontinuations! We have a full list of discontinued threads, but the ones since 2006 are below:
On your color sheet, I don’t think all of these will be present. You might see the Rayon range. This was replaced with a Satins range, which now has its own color card.
The Secret Perfumes range won’t be on your card, but these were discontinued.
Some metallics (likely to be on your card) were discontinued. All starting with “E”.
There have also been a few ranges that have come and gone in that time too!
Howdy, Looks like a number of the variegated colors are listed as both discontinued and not discontinued. Like 92 and 53. I tried to see if I noticed the color square maybe looking different but what I can tell they look the same.
They’re listed twice as depending on your country they can be fully discontinued, or simply hard to find.
On the DMC chart…what do those shaded squares to the left of each color mean?
It signifies which type of thread is available in that color. For cross stitch, its all colors.
How do I find the codes for specific art?
In the cross stitch pattern you have, you should find a table with the color codes and symbols for that pattern.
Hey Whitney!!
Didn’t know you were a cross stitch,/embroidery fan! Me too! Happy stitching.
