I’ve always been a massive fan of Japanese woodblock prints, and have done many cross stitch patterns from them, such as my mini Spring In Daigoji Temple cross stitch and my Moon Light In Yasaka Pagoda cross stitch.
However after completing my Morning at Hot Spring Resort in Arayu cross stitch based on a work by Hasui Kawase, I purchased a whole raft of his works, both originals and book compilations.
 
In one of these, I came across one of his lesser-known series, featuring snow covered temples. One of which, Snow At A Guest House On Ponds Edge just clicked with me.
The strong deep blue pond framing the light sky, snowy bridge and brown tea house, I just felt transported to Japan.
 
Sadly, even though I completed the pattern for this one almost straight away after I finished Moon Light In Yasaka Pagoda, a few projects (secret, which you don’t know about yet) and more public like the XStitch Magazine pieces I’ve recently put together, it took me over a year to stitch this piece. But I’m glad to say its now got pride of place on my wall.
