I never had a Nintendo when I was young, we were a Sega family, so when I was finally playing through the Mario games in 2020-21 I was psyched to hear that Super Mario 3D World was not only being rereleased on the Nintendo Switch. And to hear it came with a new spin-off called Bowser’s Fury I was sold from the very start. However as I had played all Mario games from the first to that point, I kind of pined for the old-school days of pixelated Mario.
Bowser’s Fury turned out to be a big departure for Mario, not only being an open-world adventure but painting Bowser as a more menacing foe than he ever was before. AND I LOVED IT!
I fell in love with how Bowser was originally a fairly smiley-looking foe, and was here displayed as a mean fire-breathing dragon turtle monster!
You can see below as I’ve stitched up Bowser’s concept art as a cross stitch in the past too.

So when I saw those little loading animations in the bottom right of the screen of Plessie, Bowser Jr, and Bowser himself, I knew I had to stitch at least one of them up.
I took some liberties with the design as I wanted him to look like he was standing, but also had flame coming out of his mouth, but it was mostly unchanged as a design from the original, and then I placed it on the bottom right of a frame to emulate the loading screen animations from the game.
Which Bowser do you prefer? Smiling concept art, or scary Bowser’s Fury version?
Happy stitching,
Lord Libidan
