If I had to give my list of favorite games, Fallout 3 would be RIGHT up there. Maybe even in my favorite spot. So once I had started to get some cross stitch patterns under my belt, like my Canabalt cross stitch, it was time to go big, and I knew Fallout was the best game for it.
I had just finished Fallout New Vegas, which wasn’t as good as Fallout 3 in my mind, however, I fell in love with the lore they offered. In particular, the posters. There were tonnes, full of catchphrases and clever imagery. In addition, the new trait tree, with little images of the vault boy, really caught my eye. So my plan was to combine the two.
At first this wasn’t an issue, however as I moved onto the vault boy, I came across two problems. The first was that the faces in images I could find online sucked. The pixelated nature meant they seemed to be squinting constantly. The second issue, was that none of them seemed to have legs. I chose the best face I could find, edited it to my liking, then went about creating the full body. This was the biggest pixel art challenge for me at the time, as whilst I had put some sprites together for the likes of my retro trio cross stitch, I hadn’t created something from nothing before.
It might have been simple in hindsight, but at the time, it was a massive success. The only thing I wished was included was a Nuka cola bottle, however after I finished I saw an amazing poster that I included in my roundup of the best Fallout cross stitches, so I’d glad I didn’t (I couldn’t do anything that good). Although it didn’t stop me making a Fallout Nuka Cola bottle cross stitch keychain some time later.
Hi, do you still sell pattern for this? Clicked to go to your etsy store and it says you’ve moved, the following link says you are out of stock 🙁 Would really love this pattern! Can’t find a whole body Vault Boy anywhere!
