is there a dmc conversation chart to planet earth silk road fibers?
Hi,
I’m afraid not. Planet Earth Silk Road fibers are hand dyed and so the color can vary.
I disagree about the DMC dye lots. If you’re stitching a big section definitely buy enough floss to cover the area that has the same batch code. I’ve had the problem with 310 (Black) and B5200 (White). I don’t take the chance anymore
Is it worth getting all the DMC colours? Do they have different dye lots? My online searches give different answers so I am confused.
This post might help you out: https://lordlibidan.com/journey-to-a-complete-set-of-dmc-threads/
I would say buying all the colors has definitely helped my cross stitch, and would suggest anyone (that can afford it) do too.
I don’t think there are dye lot differences anymore. In reality, shops keep threads in strong store lighting that bleaches the color out of them over time. You then pick up a thread and it doesn’t match the color you have at home. If you’re going to buy threads, make sure you buy ones from a good source that keeps the threads protected from strong lights. In addition, keep your own threads in a draw or similar.
DMC does an excellent job with their dyes, so generally you do not have to worry about dye lots. However:
Sometimes DMC has to change dyes (various reasons, environmental laws, supply/expense, etc.) Back in the ’90’s they changed the dyes they used for their greys and some reds for instance, and those colors never matched the same way.
Is there a way that we could get a list of these colors in numerical order? I love the color chart but I also like having them in numerical because it makes them easier to sort through and organize. I’ve got all but about 40 of the colors, haha
Sounds like you might like this: https://lordlibidan.com/dmc-thread-inventory-spreadsheet/
DMC released 16 new colors (3880-3895) in 2013. Those colors are not included in the color card shown above.
Those threads are officially discontinued now, (in fact they were discontinued in 2013 a few months after launch) so are not part of the full range. You might be able to pick up those colors in the US (the only place they launched them) but there were made in 2013 and can discolor over time. As a result I would’t use them if you have them.
You can find out more about why they were discontinued in our post about it: https://lordlibidan.com/why-were-those-threads-discontinued/
I have both of those threads that have been discontinued and I live in Australia. I do a lot of cross stitch and I had a pattern that needed one of those colours. I own every single cross stitch colour at present. The only thing I don’t have is a colour chart (soo annoying lol). Im after one that’s at least printable….
