Everyone loves a good collection of threads, but unless you have the whole set of DMC threads you’re going to need a way to keep track of what you have, and haven’t got. That’s why we created this awesome colored spreadsheet of all standard, metallic, variations, variegated, Coloris and Étoile 6 strand DMC threads, so you can keep track.
Just click the link or image and save the spreadsheet. You can access it on your computer, phone, or put it through googledocs!

omg that’s a work of art, thank you so much this just changed my life
the availability checker ? chef’s kiss
Hi, thank you for the wonderful work. It says the table is searchable and if I enter a number it does show the color name; however, the Owned column doesn’t populate with the number I have in Owned. Also, I thought it would accept input and add it but it doesn’t do that either. What should the function of it do?
It sounds like you’ve input a number of threads you own into the cell, destroying the formula that is meant to be there. If you download a fresh copy it will work correctly.
That field searches only; you cannot add amounts of thread into it.
Is there a way to sort the sheet by threads I actually own? I would like to pretty much “hide” the colors I don’t own and get a print view of them. By number is okay, but by color would be nice. So I can glance at the colors I have, sorted by color.
You can get a printable list of only the colors you own, but it will be in number order.
Start by unprotecting the “Print – By Number” tab.
Select the “Color” header and select the filter button.
You can then remove any with 0 and it will show you all the threads you own.
There is currently no option for doing this in color order though.
I love this tool and rely heavily on it, so thank you for making it available for free! My version is dated December 2025. Can you tell me what changed on the April 2026 update? Is it work re-downloading and moving my information over to the updated sheet? Thanks again!
Hi!
There is actually a hidden sheet with the change notes in so you can compare.
We’ve added some now confirmed discontinued threads from the 50s, but that’s all!
This is amazing! Is there any way to tell which colors are available in which thread type? For instance, how can I see which colors are available in the Pearl Cotton type? Thanks so much!
Not on this sheet I’m afraid. These are all the threads sold in the standard 6 strand embroidery thread. However our scan of the official DMC color chart has that info on it!
