Everyone loves a good collection of threads, but unless you have the whole set of DMC threads you’re going to need a way to keep track of what you have, and haven’t got. That’s why we created this awesome colored spreadsheet of all standard, metallic, variations, variegated, Coloris and Étoile 6 strand DMC threads, so you can keep track.
Just click the link or image and save the spreadsheet. You can access it on your computer, phone, or put it through GoogleDocs!
This is the same spreadsheet available as a bestseller on Etsy, rated 4.9 stars from over 5,500 reviews. The content is identical between both versions. You can download it here completely free, or grab it on Etsy if you’d rather buy it through your Etsy account or simply want to support the work that goes into keeping it accurate.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the DMC thread inventory spreadsheet really free?
Yes. The spreadsheet on this page is completely free to download and use for tracking your own thread collection. A version with the same content is also available on Etsy for stitchers who prefer buying through their Etsy account or want to support the site directly, but you don’t need to buy anything to get the full spreadsheet.
How many DMC threads does the spreadsheet cover?
The spreadsheet includes all 500 standard 6 strand DMC threads, plus current and discontinued metallics, variations, variegated, Coloris, and Étoile threads, so you have a single reference for the entire range rather than just the basics.
Does the spreadsheet work on my phone or tablet?
Yes. It opens in Excel or Google Sheets, so you can access it on a computer, phone, or tablet, including Android devices. Uploading it to Google Drive is the easiest way to keep it with you while shopping or stitching.
Can I convert between DMC and other thread brands using this sheet?
Yes, the spreadsheet includes a thread conversion chart across 9 major brands, so you can cross reference DMC numbers against Anchor, Sullivans, and others without needing a separate tool.
What’s the difference between the free version here and the one sold on Etsy?
There’s no difference in content. Both give you the same full thread list, color card, and conversion tools. Some stitchers simply prefer buying through Etsy for the familiar checkout and file delivery, or as a way of supporting the work that goes into keeping the spreadsheet accurate.
Do I need any special software to open the spreadsheet?
No. It works with Excel or the free Google Sheets app, so there’s nothing extra to buy or install before you start tracking your threads.

Is there a version that is printable? I tried to print the spreadsheet, but it wasn’t formatting correctly and splitting columns between sheets.
You should be able to hit the Direct download link and get a pdf version (or click the link in this message!)
Thank you for this sheet. I finally got all my colors checked off and access to it on the go. This helps tremendously for my smocking! I always know what I have (or need). Thanks a million.
Thank you for this wonderful spread sheet. It is just what I need to track my DMC floss.
This is an amazing resource! I am so grateful to you for putting in the work and providing this to everyone who loves to stitch!
I had a question…the search field works for the first column only on my spreadsheet. (I can search any yarn in the first column and the name and owned columns fill in correctly. However, when I put in a thread number from any column other than the first, the name comes up, but the “owned” field stays at -0-, even if I have indicated a quantity that I actually own. Am I doing something wrong?
Thank you!!
Shari
Hey!
Sometimes when you download excel files your computer stops the file from updating automatically.
On your header bar you should see a “Formulas” tab. In that tab, you should see a “Calculation Options” button; select that and set to automatic. You should also see a “Calculate Sheet” button; hit that too.
That should fix the issue. If not, drop me another message and we’ll work it out!
Wow! That did it!!! Thank you so much – so glad I found you!
Happy stitching!!
Shari
Hi LordLibidan! Thank you for the amazing spreadsheet! I was inputting values in the 7th column and the search function did not seem to update the number owned. I tried the tip you left for Shari, and it still did not make a difference. Do you have any idea on how I could fix this?
Ah, gosh, I’m sorry, that’s a bug! If you download it again it should work.
If you’ve added numbers already you can copy the whole of the first sheet and just paste it over the top of the new one. The bug fix should still work.
Sorry about that!
Thank you for fixing the bug! It works well now 🙂
Hi again. Your update fix worked except I just added some new colors I acquired to my inventory sheet and one field is not updating to show I have a quantity of 1. I tried the update info you gave me previously, but this one field won’t update: 3768 Gray Green – Dark 0
Let me know if there is some way I can fix this.
Thank you for your help!!
Shari
Hi Shari,
I don’t seem to be able to replicate the issue. What does it come up with instead of “1”?
You appear to have copied in the color name and number, but you have a 0 at the end. Can you confirm you’ve added a “1” into the owned field?
Yes – I added a 1 in that field. Then when I put that color number in the search field, it still shows -0-. I tried deleting the “1” in entered and re-adding it, but still when I go to the search field, I get -0- for that color. I tried all the other colors I added and they come up correctly. I tried 3768 again, but I still get -0-. I have automatic calculation set and I tried “calculate sheet” again, but still get the same result.
I think I’ll have to have a look at it. I’ve responded by email too.
This is amazing!! Thank you so much!
