Everyone loves a good collection of threads, but unless you have the whole set of DMC threads you’re going to need a way to keep track of what you have, and haven’t got. That’s why we created this awesome colored spreadsheet of all standard, metallic, variations, variegated, Coloris and Étoile 6 strand DMC threads, so you can keep track.

Just click the link or image and save the spreadsheet. You can access it on your computer, phone, or put it through GoogleDocs!

This is the same spreadsheet available as a bestseller on Etsy, rated 4.9 stars from over 5,500 reviews. The content is identical between both versions. You can download it here completely free, or grab it on Etsy if you’d rather buy it through your Etsy account or simply want to support the work that goes into keeping it accurate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the DMC thread inventory spreadsheet really free?

Yes. The spreadsheet on this page is completely free to download and use for tracking your own thread collection. A version with the same content is also available on Etsy for stitchers who prefer buying through their Etsy account or want to support the site directly, but you don’t need to buy anything to get the full spreadsheet.

How many DMC threads does the spreadsheet cover?

The spreadsheet includes all 500 standard 6 strand DMC threads, plus current and discontinued metallics, variations, variegated, Coloris, and Étoile threads, so you have a single reference for the entire range rather than just the basics.

Does the spreadsheet work on my phone or tablet?

Yes. It opens in Excel or Google Sheets, so you can access it on a computer, phone, or tablet, including Android devices. Uploading it to Google Drive is the easiest way to keep it with you while shopping or stitching.

Can I convert between DMC and other thread brands using this sheet?

Yes, the spreadsheet includes a thread conversion chart across 9 major brands, so you can cross reference DMC numbers against Anchor, Sullivans, and others without needing a separate tool.

What’s the difference between the free version here and the one sold on Etsy?

There’s no difference in content. Both give you the same full thread list, color card, and conversion tools. Some stitchers simply prefer buying through Etsy for the familiar checkout and file delivery, or as a way of supporting the work that goes into keeping the spreadsheet accurate.

Do I need any special software to open the spreadsheet?

No. It works with Excel or the free Google Sheets app, so there’s nothing extra to buy or install before you start tracking your threads.

Apologies if this has been asked before but in the the DMC list what does an asterix next to the number signify?

    1. LordLibidan

These are hard-to-find threads that whilst still sold, have not been produced for at least 10 years.

  2. Patricia GARNER Crisp

I would add to my previous email. Have you thought to add Au Ver a Soie’s threads?

    1. LordLibidan

Hi! As these aren’t 6 strand threads I think its unlikely that we’ll add them at this time. Sorry.

  3. Carrie-Anne

What a find, i had put my threads on my own spreadsheet but will definitely use ours instead as having the colours will be a big help when planning designs!

Do you have plans to add Luca-s to the thread conversion chart? I really like the quality for the cost of it compared to DMC in the UK.

    1. LordLibidan

I don’t see why not! I’ll add it to the next release!

  4. Elizabeth Bell

Thank you. I bought a Disney Star Wars Kit and ran out of some of the floss colours. I couldn’t replace them because the numbers did not correspond with any of the labels on the DMC floss colours in the shops. I’m hoping your chart will help me identify them. Thank you again.

    1. LordLibidan

Do you know the brand of the Star Wars kit? Normally a conversion chart is floating around the internet for these patterns!

  5. Coral Wheeler

I was wondering if you could possibly update the By Color spreadsheet to include the newer threads such as pearl and discontinued. I’ve become determined to get them all! If you do not want to, that’s all right, no worries.

    1. LordLibidan

We’ve decided not to do the discontinued, as we just keep finding new ones!!!
However we have had a lot of requests for cotton perlé. We’re still not sure about those, but we are thinking about it!
