I originally came across ThePixelArtShop back when I was researching for my miniature retro game screens cross stitches, as he had created a small Pacman (all be it much later than mine). So I kept my eye on his various channels, and when I finally saw his Pacman arcade cabinet I fell in love!

But for me, Pacman isn’t the best arcade game. It’s Dug Dug. So on a recent visit to an arcade, I remembered his work and just had to do my own take.
I started by updating the game, making a mini Dug Dug which I think is a great rendition of the game, even if very simplified!
I then updated the controls and added some length which I think shows it’s an arcade cabinet better.
But then I decided to get one step further!

On ThePixelArtShop’s original, there were two layers, one for the screen and one upper layer for the banner and control. But I wondered if there would be a way to make it a little better. I started by adding some height to the control stick, then added some height to the buttons (which are a major part of the Dig Dug game). But not convinced to just stick with that, I also added an extra layer for the banner and the bottom straight so that the controls naturally pushed themselves into the work, increasing the look of depth.
I personally think it worked well, and I’ve already been asked if I might do more of them. What do you think? Are there any cabinets that should get this cross stitch treatment?
Happy stitching,
Lord Libidan
