I had just finished my Fallout overencumbered cross stitch and had posted it on the blog, and someone reached out. Not unusual, it happens a lot, but Silas and I kicked it off. I was stitching my Fallout please stand by cross stitch at the time, and Silas shared his Fallout project, a denim jacket.
At first, I just thought it was awesome, but the more they shared, the more I got into the idea of stitching a Nuka Cola denim jacket.
The thing that really hit it for me was a PipBoy on the left wrist, which I felt was just perfect! So I started a plan to put the whole thing together.
However, it had been a long time since I’d stitched on anything but aida, so I also started stitched up my Star Wars Imperial and Resistance logo cross stitch caps, using two different types of cross stitch fabrics to test which I liked the best. Whilst the vinyl aida was far easier to stitch on, and resulted in nicer actual stitches, it just looked wrong, so I decided on using waste canvas for the whole thing.

So this is where I started planning out the design. The first thing I knew I wanted to stitch was the PipBoy 3000 I had seen on Silas’ jacket, so I found the same pattern on Etsy. There were actually others too, from other Fallout games, but the Fallout 3 PipBoy 3000 is the best in my mind, and I really think it went well with the second thing I decided; using a black denim jacket.
I made a few tiny changes to the pattern, but it’s 99% the same as ChocoCocoStitch’s.
I also super struggled with removing the waste canvas on this one, so I researched it a little more and put together a guide on how to use and remove waste canvas, just in case others have the same issues!

There were two things in particular that the black denim jacket was decided on for. The first was that I wanted it to show up the stitching more starkly, but I also wanted it to look a bit like the leather Tunnel Snakes jackets in-game.
But did I just want to do Tunnel Snakes? Neh, it’s been done.
There is also a black jacket for The Atom Cats, which is also an awesome design, but that’s been done too.
So I settled on something else; something I had always loved in the Fallout games; a Nuka Cola denim jacket.
Now, this is far from the first time I’ve done a Fallout cross stitch, but I’d never explored Nuka Cola in a way I really liked. But then I remembered the truly awesome Nuka Cola Quantum advert from my best Fallout cross stitches. I have always loved this piece, and I thought it would be a great chance to do something similar.
I started by mocking up a Nuka Cola logo and realised that it would be a perfect fit for the yoke of the jacket.

But then came the important stitch, the main back panel. However, when looking for inspiration, I came across this great advert from FischyCreations on Etsy. It has a strong advert style and includes the newer Nuka Cola bottle design, which I prefer.
So I just had to stitch this up too!
I made some color tweaks, including changing the cola color, bottle cap, and the black text to white to stand out on the jacket, but it’s mostly original as well.

And the jacket was done! Well… mostly.
For some reason, it just didn’t balance right.
I considered adding an upper arm stitch to the right arm to try to balance it out, but I had a Nuka Cola cap from another non-cross stitch project I was doing and thought it would look great as a pin.
I also found a keyring similar to my Nuka Cola Quantum keychain cross stitch I had made over a decade ago.
I think it balances it out perfectly.

Do you think you could see someone wearing this Nuka Cola denim jacket in the Fallout universe?
Happy stitching,
Lord Libidan
