I’ve written about how I create designs for the Xstitch Mag before, however, in the most recent issue, the theme was ‘Mixtape’. This, in essence, meant I could stitch anything I wanted. I actually created a series of Gameboys based on a Gameboy Color Micro Console Cross Stitch however this design was way too complicated for the magazine, so I had to think of another idea too.
I knew the editorial team happened to like literal things, so I thought I would also submit a literal mixtape for the mixtape issue!
These really reminded me of the golden zelda cartridge I stitched, but they originally started off using the same design as the transforming tapes cross stitch for my Soundwave transformer.
I initially only created one design to test the viability of the idea (I knew it was the first 3D cross stitch pattern in the magazine), and it proved to not only work, but was super fun and quick to put together. So I randomly created 9 different styles based on a what my idea of some crazy cassette tapes would be.
At this stage, the editor of the mag liked the idea so much it was taken up for the cover for the issue! I designed a further 3 styles so there were 12 in total and stitched them all up.

If you’re interested, you can pick up the pattern for this on my Etsy store.
