Everyone loves a good collection of threads, but unless you have the whole set of DMC threads you’re going to need a way to keep track of what you have, and haven’t got. That’s why we created this awesome colored spreadsheet of all standard, metallic, variations, variegated, Coloris and Étoile 6 strand DMC threads, so you can keep track.

Just click the link or image and save the spreadsheet. You can access it on your computer, phone, or put it through GoogleDocs!

This is the same spreadsheet available as a bestseller on Etsy, rated 4.9 stars from over 5,500 reviews. The content is identical between both versions. You can download it here completely free, or grab it on Etsy if you’d rather buy it through your Etsy account or simply want to support the work that goes into keeping it accurate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the DMC thread inventory spreadsheet really free?

Yes. The spreadsheet on this page is completely free to download and use for tracking your own thread collection. A version with the same content is also available on Etsy for stitchers who prefer buying through their Etsy account or want to support the site directly, but you don’t need to buy anything to get the full spreadsheet.

How many DMC threads does the spreadsheet cover?

The spreadsheet includes all 500 standard 6 strand DMC threads, plus current and discontinued metallics, variations, variegated, Coloris, and Étoile threads, so you have a single reference for the entire range rather than just the basics.

Does the spreadsheet work on my phone or tablet?

Yes. It opens in Excel or Google Sheets, so you can access it on a computer, phone, or tablet, including Android devices. Uploading it to Google Drive is the easiest way to keep it with you while shopping or stitching.

Can I convert between DMC and other thread brands using this sheet?

Yes, the spreadsheet includes a thread conversion chart across 9 major brands, so you can cross reference DMC numbers against Anchor, Sullivans, and others without needing a separate tool.

What’s the difference between the free version here and the one sold on Etsy?

There’s no difference in content. Both give you the same full thread list, color card, and conversion tools. Some stitchers simply prefer buying through Etsy for the familiar checkout and file delivery, or as a way of supporting the work that goes into keeping the spreadsheet accurate.

Do I need any special software to open the spreadsheet?

No. It works with Excel or the free Google Sheets app, so there’s nothing extra to buy or install before you start tracking your threads.

Too bad you don’t have the discontinued variegated colors with their corresponding numbers listed.

      1. Jennifer W

I just was gifted DMC’s Color Variations Blue Lagoon Collection and none of the 8 skeins are in your chart nor are they mentioned here (https://lordlibidan.com/dmc-variation-threads-and-their-corresponding-colors-in-solids/).
They are 4022 (Mediterranean Sea), 4095 (Cupcake), 4211 (Azalea), 4214 (Cotton Candy), 4237 (Laguna Blue), 4250 (Berry Parfait), 4255 (Orchid) and 4260 (Enchanted).
Are you willing/able to update the spreadsheet? I just cannot figure out how to create the gradient to update it on my sheet myself (Using Open Office).

      2. LordLibidan

        Hi Jennifer,
I’m afraid we don’t actually know the breakdowns of color for the discontinued ranges. We’ve tried getting our hands on the threads in the past, but we’ve not been successful. It’s our intention to add them in, but right now we can’t, sorry!
In addition, I think you can only make those little gradients on Microsoft Excel; not Open Office. Sorry!

      3. Tina T

Many of those you have listed as discontinued come in sets.

        The Amazon Collection contains: one each of Variation floss colors 4000, 4066, 4068, 4069, 4122, 4129, 4135 and 4265.

The Blue Lagoon Collection contains: one each of Variation floss colors 4022, 4095, 4211, 4214, 4237, 4250, 4255 and 4260.

        The Holiday Collection: one each of Variation floss colors 4017, 4042, 4047, 4072, 4073, 4205, 4212 and 4245.

      4. LordLibidan

        Hey!
The Holiday Collection is no longer manufactured, although there are some stores selling old packs.
The Amazon Collection and Blue Lagoon Collection are USA specific packs (and are almost impossible to find outside Northern America). However a contact in DMC informed us that those variations are no longer being made, and the US is simply working through old stock.
        Hope that helps!

Google has an awesome app called Google Sheets. It lets you edit existing Excel sheets or create a brand new one – all for free!

It’s been so long since I have cross stitched. I have a big box of organized thread, but I’ve forgotten how to label them without a number on the thread. Are there any suggestions?

  2. Helly Green

Really brilliant chart and just what I was looking for.

  3. Amanda Roa

Just what I was looking for! Thank you so much! Amanda

  4. Kim

This is so helpful and just what I was looking for. Thank you!!

I see in your comments that you updated the PDF to fix the “mediumium” spelling errors but when I download from the link the PDF still has those errors. Where can I find the updated one? Also, did you fix the ones that have the number in the name, like 13 and 14? Thanks this is really handy!
