Have you ever been mid-project, totally in the zone, only to realise you’re missing that one thread? You swore you had it, maybe even bought it twice… but it’s nowhere to be found.
That’s exactly what used to happen to me—until I completed my journey to owning every DMC thread. But for most stitchers, a missing color can be a real momentum killer.

That’s why I built a new tool to help. With our DMC Color Match tool, you can quickly and easily find the five closest DMC alternatives to any thread number. Just type in your missing color or select it from the list, and boom—you’ve got options that blend right in.

This tool uses real color data from DMC to compare shades visually—not just by number. Whether you’re working on a vintage pattern with discontinued threads, or just trying to find a stand-in from your stash, it’s a game-changer.

Not sure what the original color should look like? You can compare it against the official DMC thread range to double-check the match.

At the moment, it’s DMC-only, as we wanted to get the core tool working right first. But we’re already looking into expanding it to include equivalents from Anchor, Cosmo, and maybe even specialty brands in future updates.

Give the tool a try below and let us know what you think—feedback is super welcome! We’re always looking for ways to make stitching easier, especially when the little things (like a single missing thread) get in the way.

Enter a DMC thread color number (e.g., 310, 996) to find the closest DMC thread color:
